  • "PIF" - INTERNATIONAL PUPPET FESTIVAL

    Where: Zagreb, Croatia

    Cost: K20

    What: More than 20 star European ensembles demonstrate their skills in beautiful venues around Zagreb. Also offers special seminars on the making of puppets as well as animation and puppet exhibitions. Opportunities for children and adults to chat with the artists and to be inspired by their talents and tricks.

  • URBAN FESTIVAL

    Where: Zagreb, Croatia

    Cost: Mostly free

    What: An ambitious and exciting multimedia project with performances, art installations and urban interventions by performing and visual artists. Project is based on the modern concept of art as a social component that tries to communicate actively with the urban population, making use of abandoned, out-of use locations in the ex-industrial zone of eastern Zagreb. Visual and performing artists are given free access to the urban infrastructure; streets, squares and buildings are all up for grabs. Festival organisers have chosen pieces which specifically address urban issues, performed by an international array of artists who attempt to actively change the urban landscape and human behaviour patterns within it. Participants come from Argentina, Canada, USA and the UK, as well as Croatia. Discussion forums and workshops take place alongside the performances and festival "happenings".

  • JULIAN RACHLIN & FRIENDS CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL

    Where: Rector's Palace, Dubrovnik, Croatia

    Cost: K200-K400

    What; Dubrovnik's Rector's Palace hosts a series of six chamber concerts featuring violinist Julian Rachlin and guests. Cellist Mischa Maisky, pianist Itamar Golan, horn player Radovan Vlatkovic, violinist Janin Jansen, pianist Mihaela Ursulease and clarinettist Ernst Ottensammer perform works by Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Shostakovich, Bach, Shumann and others. (Opening Hours: 9pm)

  • WORLD THEATRE FESTIVAL

    Where:Zagreb, Croatia

    Cost: Various

    What:Aim of the festival is to showcase a selection of relevant works on the world theatre scene and to bring them to the Croatian people. This year's festival includes performances from the Dramatic Theatre in Warsaw, Odid Teatret and New Theatre Riga.

  • CRO CHALLENGE DUBROVNIK

    When: Sep 2007 (annual)

    Where: Dubrovnik, Croatia

    Cost: Entry fee K800 per team; 2 day race K1500 per team (accommodation, food & equipment included)

    What:A multidisciplinary competition featuring kayaking, running through the city centre, rope climbing over the city walls, swimming and diving. Teams of two or four competitors aim to complete the course in the shortest time possible. Race is one of four organised along the Croatian coast. Prizes of up to K4000 are reserved for the champions.



  • HVAR SUMMER FESTIVAL

    Where: Hvar, Croatia

    What:This traditional summer cultural event is one of the oldest on the Croatian coast. The Hvar Summer Festival incorporates all the arts. Music, theatre, folklore, and jazz are enjoyed throughout the town from June 21 to September 30. Performances are given nearly every day in a number of picturesque settings. As a rule, the Hvar Summer performances last 100 days during which time the locals welcome visitors to the town with open arms. A special event called Mladi koji dolaze (The Young That Are Coming), gives many young artists the chance to perform in public for the first time.

  • ZAGREB FILM FESTIVAL

    Where: Student Centre, Zagreb, Croatia

    Cost:K25; documentary screenings free

    What:The Zagreb Film Festival, at the Student Centre, includes debut films (first or second films in a career), features, shorts and documentaries by filmmakers from around the world.During the Festival the Student Centre transforms into a city wide awake from 9 am until 4 am with all its halls, lobbies and bars at the disposal of festival events.

  • INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL

    When: Nov 2007 (annual)

    Where: Pula, Croatia

    What: Provides a forum for all forms of contemporary Croatian music. Along with numerous concerts by soloists, ensembles and guest musicians, the festival also features meetings and professional seminars on publishing and copyright issues, and a series of lectures entitled "Meetings of the Mediterranean Composers of New Generation.”
