Sidebar events include competitions for documentaries and short films.
This year’s festival honorees Emily Watson and Christopher Walken remark on the pleasures of being able stroll the ancient walled city without being harassed by fans and paparazzi.
Other guests this year included Charles Dance, John Hurt and Director Peter Medak. Festival needs a lot more PR work to draw the public, but given its unique setting and that it’s a growing tourist destination, its future looks promising. So catch while it’s still intimate and maybe you can stroll under stars with the stars.

Since being established 1950, this annual event attracts top class artists in theatre, music, opera and dance, becoming one the most culturally diverse festivals in Europe. Performances are presented on a series of open-air stages located the city’s squares, palaces, towers and parks. Talk about enchanting. Works by the likes of Shakespeare, Goldini, the Greek Tragedians, Moliere, Corneille and Goethe. The musical component of the festival was originally intended as a showcase for the best domestic composers, soloists and orchestras but has evolved to become a review of some of the top solo artists and ensembles from around the world. Don’t miss the dramatic opening ceremony with fireworks and music where entire local population and tourists become part of the show.
When: Every Saturday and Sunday, starting from first Saturday in May till last Sunday in October. (annual) Chivalric games Moreska and Kumpanija from the island of Korcula are performed in front of St. Blaise church in September. Organized by the local Tourist Board.
