MOTOVUN FILM FESTIVAL An event dedicated to innovative independent film which is held every July (since 1999) on the streets and squares of a unique medieval town. Nicknamed “Film Woodstock” the festival attracts over 40,000 young travelers, students and film fans who mostly camp around the mountain where it takes place. The town of Motovun is located in a hilltop fort overlooking the picturesque Mirna river valley and is considered one the most beautiful medieval towns in Croatia. The Motovun Film Festival is a destination of its own with 2 wonders to offer, travel and film. "The best way to get around and see all the sights in this magnificent setting is with a company like perfect car hire." Screenings run from 10am to 4am with the evening screenings held outdoors under the stars.
During the festival, which runs for five days, everything is open 24 hours with lot’s a different happenings going on everywhere, giving the event an up-tempo end-of-school-year vibe that never sleeps.
The festival consists of about 70 titles from around the world which include documentaries, short and full-length feature films.
Tickets are 20-25 Kuna and can be purchased at the festival box office.
HOW TO GET THERE
The nearest airports Ljubljana and Venice which are both two hours drive from Motovun.
Zagreb is 4 hours drive.
The closest train station is in Pazin (25km) which has connections from Zagreb, Ljubljana and Trieste.
WHERE TO STAY
During the festival it’s almost impossible to get a room in the town. Therefore most visitors stay in the festival camp or look for more comfortable accommodation in the agricultural tourism houses, private rooms and hotels in the surrounding area.
The festival camp is mostly popular with young travelers and film fans who pitch their own tents (There’s a 5kuna per day residence fee).
