ABOUT LOPUD ISLAND

Lopud is an island without cars, with lots of sunshine, sandy beaches and palm trees, less than one hour ferry time from Dubrovnik.

The only town has no more than a couple of hundred permanent residents, old houses of beautiful architecture, abundance of flowers everywhere and easy going life style.

The island produces its own seafood, vegetables, fruit and even tropical fruit like lemons, oranges and kiwis.

Evenings are usually spent in different small restaurants and cafes. Some are a part of evening social life along the promenade, some are in a more quiet atmosphere in the nearby countryside.

ABOUT YOUR "SEA KAYAKING LOPUD" ADVENTURE

Our base is an old traditional stone house above the village. It was originally built and used as a bakery a couple of centuries ago.

It has a pleasant small patio with sea view and a large terrace that we use it for breakfasts, meetings and barbecue parties.

Flowers and cactuses grow in the garden and there is a common kitchen and table. Apartments have showers, toilets and their own small kitchen.

Previous kayaking experience is not needed to participate in this trip.

Daily routes are rather short - 2 to 3 hours of easy paddling - and not demanding, fit for all ages between 14 and late sixties.

Sea kayaks that we use are polyethylene kayaks by Prijon, single and double, stable and easy to paddle.

In addition to paddle, spray deck and life jacket each carries snorkeling gear for exploring underwater world between paddling trips.

Occasionally groups of kayakers are escorted by friendly dolphins or tunas that are often seen in the area.

ITINERARY

SEA KAYAKING LOPUD - 8 DAY ADVENTURE PACKAGE

Day 1: Arrival to Dubrovnik Airport and transfer to Lopud Island by bus and boat. Accommodation in a house only a minute from the beach and waterfront – main street of the little town of Lopud. Late get-together drink and snacks.

Day 2: Sea kayaking school starts on the sandy beach in front of your hotel. Your first sea kayaking Lopud trip starts in the afternoon. It will take you around the island to a sandy beach of Sunj Bay on Lopud’s Southern side. Diving mask, snorkel and fins will be provided for you to explore the rich and colorful underwater world of the Adriatic. Walk back to the village for dinner (20 minutes).

Day 3: Leave in the morning to the island of Sipan. Sipan has colorful villages of Sudjuradj and Luka Sipanska. The fields between them have preserved the real country life style, chapels, monasteries, palaces and summer houses of ancient Dubrovnik aristocracy. We will return to Lopud by ferry late in the afternoon.

Day 4: Today we shall explore the Sipan Island on a bike. This island is unbelievably rich in cultural heritage, tales from the past and well preserved monuments that witnessed its turbulent history. We paddle back to Lopud in kayaks.

Day 5: Paddle to Kolocep Island, the most interesting for sea kayaking. Walk through Gornje Celo and Donje Celo, well preserved romantic Mediterranean villages. We will leave our kayaks on the beach and take the ferry to Dubrovnik, the most beautiful of all Mediterranean towns, for an afternoon of shopping in ancient streets, walking along city walls… Ice cream or coffee taste the best in open air bistros along Stradun, old town’s main street and promenade. Return to Lopud in evening (50 mins by ship).

Day 6: Another 20-minute ferry ride back to our kayaks on Kolocep for a trip around the island - through the most dramatic scenery with hidden coves, dark caves, high cliffs and mighty rocks. The trip ends on Lopud, leaving enough time for an evening barbecue party.

Day 7: Beach day. Today you are free to do what you like the most. Sunbathing, swimming, snorkeling, Eskimo rolling. Optionally, you can participate in 1-day canoeing or rafting excursion in Hercegovina (booked and paid on spot). A farewell party is planned after sunset of the last evening on Lopud.

Day 8: Transfer to Dubrovnik for homebound flight.
